Installation

ShieldWays ships as a Chrome extension. Installing takes about two minutes: download the package, load it in Chrome, pin it, and sign in.

Chrome Web Store listing coming soon. Until the store listing is live, the supported install path is loading the extension unpacked, as described below. Your settings carry over automatically once you sign in.

Requirements

  • Google Chrome (the extension is built for Chrome Manifest V3).
  • Other Chromium-based browsers may work, but Chrome is the officially supported target.

Install the extension

  1. Download the extension package

    Download shieldways-extension.zip — it contains the full extension, exactly what will ship on the Chrome Web Store.

  2. Unzip it

    Extract the archive to a folder you will keep — for example ~/shieldways-extension. Chrome loads the extension from this folder, so don’t delete it after installing.

  3. Open the extensions page

    In Chrome, go to chrome://extensions (type it into the address bar and press Enter).

  4. Enable Developer mode

    Flip the Developer mode toggle in the top-right corner of the extensions page.

  5. Load unpacked

    Click Load unpacked and select the folder you extracted in step 2. ShieldWays appears in your extension list and opens its onboarding page in a new tab.

  6. Pin ShieldWays to the toolbar

    Click the puzzle-piece icon next to the address bar, then click the pin next to ShieldWays. Your protection status is now always one glance away.

  7. Sign in

    Follow the onboarding steps, or click the extension icon and choose Sign in. Signing in happens through the ShieldWays dashboard in a normal browser tab — the extension picks up your session automatically. See Getting started for the full first-run walkthrough.

Verify it works. Open chatgpt.com. You should see a small Protected pill appear on the page — that’s AI Guard confirming it’s watching this tab.

Updating

While installed unpacked, updating means replacing the folder contents with a newly downloaded package and clicking the reload icon on the ShieldWays card at chrome://extensions. Once the Chrome Web Store listing is live, updates will install automatically.
